Description
I Took a Ride’ is a piece I made for NO END Contemporary’s Flower group show.
It borrows bits and pieces from all around. When I opened the the show’s visual prompt some of the fragments fell out of the envelope and I was reminded of a snow globe. Generally an artwork needs to hang still, but I thought it would be funny if the viewer was tempted to shake this one up, while not being sure whether it is allowed or not.
The piece is certainly also informed by childhood memories and fragments from what I see kids gravitate towards in their drawings – hearts, tv shows, the patterns in kids’ wallpaper and pyjamas.
In hindsight, I feel the piece shakes together a few joys and anxieties – the feeling of curiosity combined with the uncertainties of what is allowed or appropriate.
